If you have direct knowledge of a reputable credit counseling organization, please let me know?
I recently discovered that my daughter has a huge, repeat HUGE credit charge balance, almost to the point of bankruptcy. I also know that the Federal Trade Commission has prosecuted many organizations which claim they can help and instead help themselves and the creditor ends up in worse shape than before.
PLEASE do not speculate. Only those who can recommend a successful organization who has helped with a Dept Management Plan that has actually worked, should reply. No BS.

In a self filing bankruptcy how long does it take…..?
For your creditors to be reached? I just went in the building this past Thursday morn in Atlanta GA to self-file for bankruptcy. I presented my certified credit counseling certificate, and the clerk gave me a case number. The clerk also informed me that as of the time she gave me the official case number, I was protected from anything my creditors would try to do to me under chapter 7 bankruptcy. The result of it being discharged or not is another thing, but for now, of course this protects me from them trying to contact me in any way. One creditor has threatened garnishment because I’m default by 4 months and 12 days, at $150 a month, and my payday is this coming 20th. The garnishment at this point is highly verifiable with a 90% possibility and it is not a scare tactic. They were ready to proceed. But now I’ve filed chapter 7. I just want to know two things: how long will it take for the clerks or courts to reach all of my creditors? And: is it true that any money they take after this filing must be returned to me? I only have 6 creditors and all of them are local here in Atlanta GA. Can someone please share a bit?

If you have filed a bankruptcy petition, your creditors are prohibited from taking any collection action and will be in contempt of court if they do. Creditors that you list will receive official notice of your filing shortly.
If a creditor is threatening collection action right now, I suggest you contact them and offer to send a copy of the first page of your bankruptcy petition as proof.
